Barcelona has more bars, cafés and late night haunts per capita than any other city in the world.
Ranging from colourful tapas bars , outdoor cafés, chocolaterias, it also has a uniquely wide range of bars: coctelerías (cocktail bars), whiskerias (often singles bars with professional escorts), xampanyerias (Catalan cava, sparkling wine bars), and beer halls. Most stay open until about 2:30am, some even later.. Source: barcelona

The first documentary reference we find to the church of Santa Maria del Mar is in a text from the year 998.
This basilica is the work of the architect Berenguer de Montagut, and the first stone was laid to commemorate the conquest of Sardinia, which completed the Catalan domination in the Mediterranean initiated ten years earlier with the conquest of Mallorca, and which reached its fullest extent with the entry of Sicily and Greece into the domains of the House of Barcelona. The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is indispensable for understanding the formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the more than 3,500 works that make up the permanent collection. However, the Picasso Museum also reveals his relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death.

Thanks to the wishes of Picasso and his friend Jaume Sabartés, Barcelona now has the youthful work of one of the twentieth century’s most significant artists. Source: bcn

Places in Barcelona: The Garden Route, A special park for children

By admin at 2:34 am on Sunday, April 22, 2007
jardi_ciutadella3.jpg

One of the best parks to go with young children in Barcelona is the Parc de la Ciutadella (underground L1, Arc de Triomf, and bus). It is a historic park built in the estate occupied by the Ciutadella, a fort built by Felip V after the Guerra de Sucesión, in the XVIII century. With time, this area, originally for weapons, was taken over for the enjoyment of the public.

The park was designed by the architect Josep Fontseré. The original project preserved some of the buildings of the old Ciutadella, for example that of the Parlament de Catalunya (visits by arrangement), which was modified for the 1888 Universal Exposition. Source: bcn
